Joan was born in July 1937.  Joan's father was Joseph (The Ace) William Castoral and her mother was Vera Beyer (Castoral).  Her paternal grandparents were William Castoral and Mary (Castoral); her maternal grandparents were  Orville  Beyer and  Helen Spoonauer (Beyer).  She is the second of fourteen children.  She had seven brothers and six sisters, named Sonny, Frank, Bobby, Jerry, Walter, Smokey, Kenny, Vera, Peggy, Carole, Helen, Kathy and Denise.

Charles and Joan were divorced. They had two sons and two daughters, named Jennifer, Anne, Chuckie and James.
