Laurentius Joannes was born on July 12th, 1757.  Laurentius Joannes' father was Joannes Oliverius Eligius Benoit and his mother was Marie Joanna Carette.  His paternal grandparents were Andreas Benoit and Joanna Maria Geldhof. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Petrus Joannes, Petrus Josephus, Maria Josepha, Marie Therese, Victoria and Constantia Dorothea.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
