Joan was born before 1449. Joan's father was Thomas 5th Earl of Devon De Courtenay and her mother was Margaret (Lady) De Beaufort. Her paternal grandfather was Hugh (4th Earl of Devon) De Courtenay; her maternal grandparents were John Fairborn Marquis Somerset De Beaufort and Margaret (Lady) De Holand. She had two brothers named John (7th Earl of Devon) and Henry. She is the youngest of the three children.General Notes
