Ann Sarah was born on May 22nd, 1851 in Terry, Orange, Texas. Ann Sarah's father was Daniel Henry Simmons and her mother was Susanah Jemima Harris. Her maternal grandparents were Victor Nely Harris and Nancy Ann Netterville. She had four brothers and eight sisters, named William Nely, Thomas Henry, Charles Netterville, Daniel Ethen, Susannah Jemima (or Martha Rebecca), Martha Rebecca, Rachel Elizabeth, Mary (or Sarah) Jane, Amanda Jane, Susanah Samantha, Henrieta Virginia and Victoria Aurelia. She was the fourth oldest of the thirteen children.
