Richard was born in 1840 in Rockingham Co, NC.1 Richard's father was Richard Roberts and his mother was Charlotte Unknown. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Roberts and Sarah Joyce. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Joseph, Julia and Emily. He was the youngest of the five children.1 General Notes
