Emily was born in 1838 in Rockingham Co, NC.1 Emily's father was Richard Roberts and her mother was Charlotte Unknown. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Roberts and Sarah Joyce. She had three brothers and a sister, named John, Joseph, Richard and Julia. She was the second youngest of the five children.1 General Notes
