Zona Mertia was born on September 8th, 1903 in Advance, Davie,North Carolina. Zona Mertia's father was Robert Lee McDaniel and her mother was Angeline Foster. Her maternal grandparents were James Foster and Mary Baxley. She had eight brothers and six sisters, named Zachary L., Henry Joe, Thomas Edward, Charles Baxter, Alexander Franklin, Alex S, Isaac Ray, Robert Lee, Fallie Bell, Lola Odell, Lillie Mae, Bertha Lee, Mertie I and Rosa Bell. She was the seventh youngest of the fifteen children. She died at the age of 95 on August 7th, 1999 in Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina.-
