Augusta's father was John Ashby Colclough and her mother was Eliza McDonald. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Colclough Col. and Mrs. McCanley. She had a brother and four sisters, named William Alexander, Musidora, Posthuma Fortunia Evelyn, Gertrude and Lenora Ida.
