Carey Austin was born on May 21st, 1835 in Bedford Co, Va.. Carey Austin's father was James "Meredith" ("Meredith") Ashwell and his mother was Sarah "Sally" Jane Ellis. His maternal grandparents were Benjamin C. Ellis and Tellitha Tabitha Mitchell. He had three brothers and six sisters, named "Bill" "Will" Ashwell, "Ben" Ashwell, "Ben" Ashwell, Tellitha Emmaline, Sarah Jane, Juliann Matilda, Mary Elizabeth, Nancy Adeline and Susan Frances. He was the fifth youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 81 on March 1st, 1917 in Bedford Co, Va.. He was buried on March 10th, 1917 in Bedford Co, Va..General Notes
