Sherman Williams 
Sherman was born on March 10th, 1842 in Harmony, Chaut. Co.,N. Y..1 Sherman's father was Alexander Williams and his mother was Lydia Everson Cushing. His maternal grandparents were John Cushing and Lucy Sherman. He had a brother and three sisters, named Jasper, Zemira, Sarah Cushing and Lydia Everson. Sherman Williams enlisted in Co. G, 49th Regt. New York Volunteers Aug. 28, 1861, and was honorably discharged after serving 3 years and 11 days. He was elected Co. Treasurer of Chaut. Co., New York, in 1869, for a term of 3 years, and re-elected in 1872.
He was elected a member of the New York State Assembly in 1876, and re-elected in 1877. In 1879, he was appointed Inspector of Customs in New York City, which position he held until promoted to the office of Appraiser of Woolens in 1892. This last names position he held until at least 1918. A first cousin of Alcander Morse and listed as a correspondent in the Morse Journal.
