Thomas was born on October 11th, 1842.1 Thomas' father was Thomas Christian Vought and his mother was Lucy Gardner. His paternal grandparents were Achitias Vought and Jane Oakley. He had nine brothers and five sisters, named David, James, Charles, Gardner, George, Nehemiah, Daniel, Miron, Harrison, Zibbie, Jewel Oakley, Clara, Phoebie and Leslie.
