John E. W. was born in January 1850 in TN.1   John E. W.'s father was James P. Todd and his mother was Mary Jane Dunaway.  His paternal grandparents were William Todd and Jane Douglas. He had two brothers and nine sisters, named James P., Jefferson Bradford, Cynthia F., Saline, Rebecca Elizabeth, Mary Caroline, Sarah J., Louisa Martha, Amanda Catherine, Melissa Palestine and Sarah Malissa.  He was the third youngest of the twelve children.1
