Myron Phelps 
Myron was born on March 17th, 1803 in Palmyra, Ontario County, New York.1 Myron's father was Stephen Phelps and his mother was Lois Day. His paternal grandparents were Luke Phelps and Ann Freeman; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Day and Lois Merrick. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Alexis, Stephen Summer, William, Charles, Laura and Emily. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 75 on August 15th, 1878 in Lewistown, Illinois.1 General Notes

In 1824, Judge Stephen Phelps moved to Lewistown, Illinois and opened the first store in Fulton Co. in 1824 with a small stock of goods. His son, Myron, later became his partner. When Stephen Phelps died in 1840, the business descended to his son Myron. It later came into the hands of his son, Henry, who took his brother-in-law Charles Proctor, into a partnership about 1905. . (Daughter Harriet Phelps (1843 __-__) married Charles Proctor). The store remained in the family for 95 years. Charles Proctor and Son sold to Joseph Szold and Son June 2, 1919.
Myron was a sheriff in Fulton County in 1826, Recorder 1836
He was very active in the First Presbyterian church since it began. It was said he that when he became a Christian, he "coverted body soul and pocketbook." He was very generous and probably without his financial help, the church buildings would not have been built.
