Alcander Othello Morse 
Alcander Othello was born on July 31st, 1840 in Cortland Co. New York.1 Alcander Othello's father was William Morse and his mother was Louisa H. Cushing. His paternal grandfather was John Morse; his maternal grandparents were John Cushing and Lucy Sherman. He had a brother and six sisters, named Arthur S., Alderette, Lucy, Ruth, Lyda, Henrietta and Zella. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named Fred. He died at the age of 54 on September 20th, 1894 in Platte, S.Dak.1 General Notes

Alcander Morse enlisted in the 37th Illinois Volunteers at the rank of Corporal. He was discharged 3 1/2 years later at the rank of Sergeant. He then enlisted in Hancock's Veteran Corp for 1 1/2 years . He wrote a daily journal that covered 2 1/2 years of his service in the Civil War.
