May was born in 1837.1 May's father was Edward McCoy and her mother was Anna Reese. Her paternal grandfather was ??? McCoy. She had four brothers and a sister, named Lafayette Waldo, Charles C., George, Edwin and Sarah. She was the oldest of the six children.1 General Notes
