Certificate, and Obituary notices. Lafayette was known as a
"professional soldier". He enlisted on Sept 9, 1861 to serve 3 years.
He served as a private in Company "B", 51st Regiment Ohio Volunteer
Infantry, Colonel Stanley Matthews commanding. Lafayette was wounded at
Stone River on Jan 2, 1863 and returned home until July 1863.
!He reenlisted at Alliance, OH on May 2, 1864 to serve 100 days as private
in Company "F" 162nd Regiment, Ohio Volunteers Infantry. He was
honorably discharged on April 4, 1864. He then reenlisted for a third
time to serve one year on September 1864 as a sergeant of Company "G"
179th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
!He received a final honorable discharge at Columbus, OH on June 27, 1865.
!According to an affidavit submitted by Armintha Coy for pension of Lafayette
Coy, she was the only wife of Lafayette. Among Uncle Chet's findings is a
marriage record for Lafayette W. Coy and Nancy Martin dated Nov. 9, 1865 in
Tuscawaras County, OH. The marriage record for Armintha and Lafayette is Sept.
19, 1869 in Massillon, OH.
!According to his obituary notice, he and "Minnie" moved to Bowling Green about
1889.
