John was born in Upway, Dorchester, Dorsetshire, England.1   John's father was Simon Hoyt and his mother was Deborah Stowers.  His paternal grandparents were John Hoyt and Ruth Unknown. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Walter, Thomas, Nicholas, Deborah and Ruth. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Moses, Joshua, Samuel, Benjamin, Mary, Miriam and Sarah.  He died in 1684 in Rye, NY.1
