Tristram was born in 1536 in Banscombe.1   Tristram's father was Ellis Holcombe and his mother was Elizabeth Sydenham.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Holcombe and Jane Holcombe; his maternal grandfather was Thomas Sydenham. He had six brothers and a sister, named Nicholas, Thomas, Robert, John, George, Walter and Jane.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died in England.1
