Ellis was born in 1515 in England.1   Ellis' father was Charles Holcombe and his mother was Jane Holcombe.  His paternal grandparents were Roger Holcombe and Margaret Avenal. He had two sisters named Elizabeth and Catherine.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died in England.1
