John Fairly was born on March 5th, 1845.1   John Fairly's father was John Jacob Rhodes Gilchrist and his mother was Effie Fairly.  His paternal grandparents were Angus Gilchrist and Elizabeth McNeill; his maternal grandfather was John Fairly. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James A., Angus, William, Robert, Flora McNeil and Sallie Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 16 on October 18th, 1861.1
