Martha was born on June 11th, 1741.1   Martha's father was William Gaston and her mother was Olivet Lemon. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Hugh, Justice John, Robert, William, Alexander, Elizabeth, Mary and Jennett.  She was the youngest of the nine children.1
