Martha was born in 1856.1   Martha's father was William L. M. Benedict and her mother was Adelia Ann Benedict. She had six brothers and four sisters, named William L. M., Samuel, Rheuben James, Alonzo, Orville Oscar, Edgar Stacy, Adelia Ann, Caroline Rebecca, Mary Jane and Rachel E..  She was the youngest of the eleven children.1
