1   Tom's father was Jesse H. Beard and his mother was Sarah A. Bazemore.  His paternal grandparents were Jesse Beard and Louisa Pengree; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Bazemore and Elizabeth J. Taylor. He had four brothers and eight sisters, named Joseph Luther, Douglas Bowie, Perry, Willie, Ida, Nellie, Jennie, Catherine, Audrey Ivanetta, Jessie, Laura and Dora. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Allen, Lamar and Carrie.1
