Samuel was born in 1660 in Providence, Rhode Island.1   Samuel's father was Maturin Ballou and his mother was Hannah Pyke.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Pyke and Catherine. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, James, Peter, Nathaniel and Hannah.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died in Providence, Rhode Island.1
