Peter was born in 1654 in Providence, Rhode Island.1   Peter's father was Maturin Ballou and his mother was Hannah Pyke.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Pyke and Catherine. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, James, Nathaniel, Samuel and Hannah.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 77 on September 9th, 1731 in Providence, Rhode Island.1
