Nathaniel was born in 1658 in Providence, Rhode Island.1   Nathaniel's father was Maturin Ballou and his mother was Hannah Pyke.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Pyke and Catherine. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, James, Peter, Samuel and Hannah.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died about 1677.1
