James Whitaker was born on January 20th, 1868 in Macon Co., MO.. James Whitaker's father was Samuel Mikels and his mother was Tabitha Souther. His paternal grandparents were John Michael and Sarah Whitaker. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John T., Daniel, William, Nancy E. and Elizabeth. He was the youngest of the six children.
