Janet was born about 1576 in Kintail, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland. Janet's father was Colin Mackenzie and her mother is Barbara Grant. Her paternal grandfather was Kenneth Mackenzie and her paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Stewart; her maternal grandparents are John Grant and Margaret Stewart.
