John was born about 1432 in Darnley, Renfrew, Scotland. John's father was Alan Stewart and his mother was Catherine Seton. His paternal grandfather was John Stewart and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Lennox; his maternal grandfather was William+ Seton and his maternal grandmother is Janet+ Dunbar.
