Catherine was born about 1595 in Clifton, Nottinghamshire, England. Catherine's father was Gervase Clifton and her mother is Catherine Darcy. Her paternal grandparents were John Clifton and Anne Stanley; her maternal grandparents are Henry Darcy and Catherine Fermor. She was an only child.
