Elizabeth was born about 1683 in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. Elizabeth's father was John Churchill and her mother was Sarah Jennings. Her paternal grandfather was Winston Churchill and her paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Drake; her maternal grandparents are Richard Jennings and Frances Thornhurst. She had a brother and three sisters, named John, Henrietta, Anne and Mary. She was the third oldest of the five children. She had a half-sister named Barbara Fitzroy.
