Claude was born on July 21st, 1824 in Redbourn, Herefordshire, England. Claude's father was Thomas George I Bowes-Lyon and his mother was Charlotte Grimstead. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Bowes-Lyon and Mary Carpenter; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Valentine Grimstead and Charlotte Sarah Jane Walsh. He had a brother named Thomas George II. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 79 on February 16th, 1904 in Bordighera, Liguria, Italy.
