Her paternal grandparents are Zachariah Allen and Lavinia Jones; her maternal grandparents were Charles Hobson and Sarah Beck. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Zachariah, Charles, Zimri, Joseph, Phebe, Lavina and Hannah. She was the second oldest of the eight children.
