Gerberga was born about 0962 in Anjou, France.  Gerberga's father was Count Geoffrey ("Grisegonelle") I of Anjou and her mother was Adelais de Vermandois.  Her paternal grandparents were Duke Fulk ("le Bon") d'Anjou II of Brittany and Gerberge du Maine; her maternal grandparents were Count Robert of Meaux & Troyes and Countess Adelaide of Burgundy. She had a brother named "the Black", "le Noir".  She is the older of the two children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Foulques and Ermengarde.

‌Gerberga and William were married in a religious ceremony about 0985 in Angouleme, Charente-Maritime, France.  They had a son named Geoffrey.
