Cadwaladr was born about 1096 in Aberffraw Castle, Angelesey, Wales.  Cadwaladr's father was King Gruffydd ap Cynan of Gwynedd and his mother was Angharad verch Owain.  His paternal grandparents are Prince Cynan ap Iago of Gwynedd and Rhanullt ingen Olaf; his maternal grandfather was King Owain Vradwr ap Edyin of Gwynedd and his maternal grandmother is Morwyl verch Ednywain. He had a brother and five sisters, named "Gwynedd", Gwenlian, Rhanullt, Gwenllian, Susanna and Margred.  He died in Caernarvonshire, Wales.  He was buried in Bangor Catherdral, Is Gwyrfai, Caernarvonshire, Wales.
