Ferdinand, known as "the Great", was born about 1017 in Burgos, Burgos, Castile.  "the Great"'s father was King Sancho ("the Great el Mayor") Garcez III of Navarre and his mother was Princess Majora Munia Elvira Sánchez de Castille.  His paternal grandparents were King Garcia Sanchez III (IV) ("the Tremulous") de Navarre and Jimena Fernandez de Navarre; his maternal grandparents were Conde Sancho (El de Ios Buenos Fueros) Garces I de Castile and Urraca Gomez Salvadores. He had a brother named Garcia.  He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers named Ramiro and Ramon Berenguer.  He died on December 27th, 1065 in Lâeon, Lâeon, Spain.  He was buried in Lâeon, Lâeon, Spain.

‌"the Great" and Sancha were married in a religious ceremony in Lâeon, Lâeon, Spain.  They had three sons named "the Valiant", "the Valiant", "the Brave" and Diego.
