Sancha was born in 1013 in Lâeon, Lâeon, Spain.  Sancha's father was King Alfonso V of Leon and her mother was Elvira Menendez of Galacia.  Her paternal grandparents were King Vermudo ("the Gouty") II of Leon and Elvira Garcia de Castile; her maternal grandfather is Count Menendo Gonzalez of Galacia and her maternal grandmother was Totadomna Nunez de Celanova. She had a brother and a sister, named Nuno and Ximena. She had a half-sister named Jimina.  She died at the age of 54 on November 7th, 1067.

‌Sancha and "the Great" were married in a religious ceremony in Lâeon, Lâeon, Spain.  They had three sons named "the Valiant", "the Valiant", "the Brave" and Diego.
