Geva was born about 1081 in Avranches, Manche, Normandy. Geva's father was Hugh d'Aurange Lupus Earl of Chester and her mother is Hermentrude Ermengard de Clermont. Her paternal grandparents were Richard "Le Goz" Vicomte D'Avranches and Lady Emma de Conteville; her maternal grandparents were Hugh I de Creil de Beauvais Count of Clermont and Margaret de Roucy Montdidier. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Abbot of, Philippe, Othewell, Richard, Robert, Maud and Mavila. She was the third oldest of the eight children.
