King of France Louis IX 
King of France was born on April 25th, 1214 in Poissy, France. King of France's father was "The Lion" King of France Louis VIII and his mother was Princess of Castile, Queen of France Blanche. His paternal grandparents were King France Philippe II and Isabelle Hainault Queen of Frances; his maternal grandparents were Sanchez, King of Castile Alfonso VIII and Queen of Castile Eleanor. He had nine brothers and two sisters, named Count of Artois, Alphonse, Prince of France, Prince France, Carlo, Prince France, King Jerusalem, Prince of, Charles I, daughter and Princess France. He died due to Plague at the age of 56 on August 25th, 1270 in Carthage, Tunisia, Africa. He was buried in St. Denis, France.General Notes
St. Louis IX
Louis IX was born in Poissy, France in 1214 to Louis VIII and Blanche ofCastille. He succeeded to the throne at the age of twelve under theregency of his mother. On his twenty-first birthday he assumed fullkingship. He was well known for protecting the French clergy from secularleaders and for strictly enforcing laws against blasphemy. Louisgenerally remained neutral in international disputes. However, because ofa dispute between the Count of Le Marche and the Count of Poitiers, inwhich Henry III supported the Count of Le Marche, he was forced to go towar with England. In 1242 Louis defeated Henry III at Tailebourg. Afterthe war, he made restitution to the innocent people whose property hadbeen destroyed. He established the Sorbonne (1252) and the monasteries ofRayaumont, Vavert, and Maubuisson. Louis led two crusades, the Sixth andthe Seventh Crusades. He was captured and imprisoned during the Sixth(1244-1249). At the onset of the Seventh Crusade in 1270, Louis died ofdysentry. Boniface VIII canonized him in 1297.
Louis IX became king at 12 years of age. He ruled from 1226-1270. He was a
deeply pious man and effective king; was canonized as a saint two decades after
his death. He came close to death in 1244 and vowed to go on a crusade.
