2nd son of Hubert de Rie; helped save Duke William in 1047[surely not??]; accompanied the Conqueror in 1066; held the honour of Hingham in Norfolk, comprising 40 knights' fees, and became castellan of Norwich in 1047. His wife, Agnes, dau. of Robert de Todeni, the first baron of Belvoir, was richly endowed and brought him several manors. He founded and made great donations to the cathedral of Norwich, and his line also expired with his grandson, Hubert, baron of Hingham, in 1188, who left two co-heirs, Aliva and Isabel, both of whom married and left issue.
