Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert de Clare , Sir, Earl of Gloucester 6th and Isabel Marshall Countess of Cornwall; her maternal grandparents were John Lacy Earl of Lincoln & Constable of Chester and Margaret Quincy Countess of Lincoln. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Gilbert "the Red Earl", Thomas De, Bevis (Bogo) (Benet) De, Robert (Richard) De, Isabel De, Maud De, Roese (Rohesia) De and Eglentine De. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.-
