His paternal grandfather was Abraham Hiram Underwood and his paternal grandmother is Mary Roark. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas A., William H., Mary Jane, Sarah, Elizabeth G. and Nancy Ann. He was the oldest of the seven children. He had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Andrew Jackson, Rufus, George Alfred, Ollie, Ellis W., Matson, Maude Alice and Nora. He died at the age of 70 on April 30th, 1928 in Mt.
