Rufus was born on February 18th, 1875 in Taylor Co., Kentucky.1 Rufus' father is William A. Underwood and his mother is Ginsy Martin. His paternal grandfather was Abraham Hiram Underwood and his paternal grandmother is Mary Roark. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Andrew Jackson, George Alfred, Ollie, Ellis W., Matson, Maude Alice and Nora. He is the second oldest of the eight children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John Thornton, Thomas A., William H., Mary Jane, Sarah, Elizabeth G. and Nancy Ann.General Notes
