Susan was born in 1829 in Sewickley Twp., Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.1 Susan's father was John Means and her mother was Susannah Whitesell. Her paternal grandparents were Adam Means and Margaret Hutchinson; her maternal grandparents are Jacob Weitzel and Catherine Markley. She had six brothers named Samuel Wiley, Courtney W., Jacob Whitesell, Joseph Markle, Lithgow and John Whitesell. She is the third youngest of the seven children.General Notes
