Rubye was born on September 24th, 1903 in Bardwell, Ellis Co., Texas.1 Rubye's father was Albert Bland Bassham and her mother was Nancy Jane (Nanny) Mitchell. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph L. Bassham and Sarah O. Griffin. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Raymond D., Audrey Brand (A B), Thelma, Jewell and Hazel. She is the oldest of the six children.General Notes
