Living's father was Samuel 'Green' Basham and her mother was Alta Florence (Altie) Lemasters. Her paternal grandparents were Benajah Anderson Basham and Nancy E. Turner. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Millard Thomas, James Marion, John Vollie, Samuel Green (Sam), Charles Frank, Living, Minnie Pearl and Urline B.. She had seven half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William Henry (Evans), Riley Palestine (Tiny), Lonnie Valentine, Edward Calvin, Morgan Mayberry, Velmer, Tony Bedford, Mary Isbell, Ellen Paradine, Nellie Caroline and Bennie Jane.-
