James Lea 
James was born about 1718 in St. Stephan's Parish, King & Queen County, Virginia.1 James' father was JOHN Lea and his mother was *ANNE Taylor. His paternal grandparents were William Lea and *MARY Green; his maternal grandparents were JAMES Taylor and MARY Bishop Gregory. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, WILLIAM, Catherine and Elizabeth. He was the youngest of the five children. He died on June 2nd, 1788 in Caswell County, North Carolina.1 General Notes

They moved to NC shortly after marriage.
1762 - buys 160 acres St. Thomas Parish, Orange Co., NC. 1777, his land in Orange Co. became a part of new Caswell Co., NC.
1778 - enters 600 acres on both sides East Fork Kilgore's branch, North Hyco Creek, Caswell Co., NC.
James Lea had served in the North Carolina militia, as a private under his brother Captain Gabriel Lea of Orange Co., NC. In 1776, he served under General Griffith Rutherford against the Cherokee Indians of East Tennessee. Int the valley of the Tennessee River they burned the Indian towns of Watauga, Mayay and Estalal. They routed the Indians where Franklin, NC, now stands and after completely subduing them retunred home in October. Their Colonel was James Martin under General Rutherford. James Lea fought the Tories at Ramsons's Mill, NC on June 29, 1780. James Lea enlisted in the 10th Continental North Carolina Regiment, September 10, 1782, and served through the Siege of Yorktown.
