Hardin was born about 1875 in Patrick Co., Virginia.¹ Hardin's father was JOHN Branch and his mother was LAVINIA E Vaughn. His paternal grandparents were JAMES Daniel Branch and KEZIAH HANCOCK; his maternal grandparents were THOMAS J. Vaughn and TABITHA Martin. He had four brothers and three sisters, named JAMES Thomas, John William, Tazewell G, Flournoy, Martha, Exoney and Emilene. He is the youngest of the eight children.
