Emilene was born about 1872 in Patrick Co., Virginia.¹ Emilene's father was JOHN Branch and her mother was LAVINIA E Vaughn. Her paternal grandparents were JAMES Daniel Branch and KEZIAH HANCOCK; her maternal grandparents were THOMAS J. Vaughn and TABITHA Martin. She had five brothers and two sisters, named JAMES Thomas, John William, Tazewell G, Flournoy, Hardin, Martha and Exoney. She is the second youngest of the eight children.
