Joseph was born in 1733 in ,Louisa Co,Virginia.  Joseph's father was Samuel Thompson and his mother is Temperance UNKNOWN. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named ROBERT, Thomas, Samuel, William, David, John, Asa, Sarah and Elizabeth.  He is the fourth youngest of the ten children.
